If you’ve looked closely enough, you may have noticed that some of the more popular Google + features have been disappearing from search engine results, at a time when the social media platform seems to have stopped growing. Some Internet marketing gurus have taken this as a sign that Google + may actually be going away.
As a marketer, you probably have two questions about that notion: Is it going to happen? And, should you care?
Let’s look at the answers to each…
Is Google + Going Away?
The short answer is that it’s not very likely, especially in the short term. Not only has Google invested a lot of time and money into making G+ work, but the platform has hundreds of millions are registered users. It may be re-shaped or re-launched, but it’s probably not going away anytime soon.
Should You be Worried Either Way?
Probably not. Our advice would be to continue using Google +, but not to rely on it as your primary or only social media platform. In fact, that’s good advice for any Internet marketing tool. Because change often comes quickly unexpectedly online, never want to be too dependent on SEO, PPC, or anything else when it comes to bringing new customers to your business. Google + probably isn’t going anywhere, and you shouldn’t ignore the chances it gives you to meet contacts and promote content.
